Doubtful sound

Drove out of queenstown after a couple of free days which I filled with lots of activities!

Driving towards doubtful sound - a beautiful fjord that is far more remote and inaccessible than Milford sound.

Reached the edge of a massive lake and then took a fast boat across it - then a bus ride and finally we reached the edge of the fjord.

A really lovely big boat to stay on for the night. The weather was again changeable but the sound looked so beautiful with the mist coming off the edge of the cliffs. We saw dolphins, penguins, seals and seal ions.

Went for a kayak and also a very quick dip in the water (12 degrees felt very cold).

Exceptional buffet supper and ready for bed!

Up early at 6 to enjoy cruising the sound for a final few hours, we stopped up one of the arms of the fjord to enjoy 10 minutes of silence with all the engines switched off - magical.

Then the return journey back towards queenstown and onto a small town in central otago for a night in an English pub style hotel - with electric blankets too!!
