Arrived and found my hostel which seems okay.
Then decided to head straight out and explore. Walked across to the botanic gardens. I'd forgotten how amazingly beautiful these are. A swath of tropical paradise and green lawns on the edge of the bay, the skyscrapers of the city poking up and just visible through the trees.
And as you get closer to circular quay you can finally see the roofs of the opera house revealing themselves, until you round a corner and can see the whole building - surely the most audaciously designed structure ever - glinting in front of you, with the enormous harbour bridge providing the backdrop.
What a simply stunning city - I'd forgotten how much I love it.
Enjoyed a drink and some food with a view of both icons - and then wandered off to darling harbour and then back to the hostel
